The Champions Trophy might take place in a mixed manner in February or March mainly because there is a high probability that India will not go to Pakistan to hold the ODIs. Pakistan is the country that has been authorized to host the Champions Trophy this year after its absence since 2017 in the cricketing event calendar. Nonetheless, it has also been reported by an insider that some games could be played at UAE or Sri Lanka during this period.
Last month, Pakistan Cricket board sent the International Cricket Council a draft schedule. In the draft schedule, India’s matches are set for Lahore including the big-ticket March 1 game pitting the arch-rivals against each other. Nevertheless, as of now, there is no official confirmation regarding travel from BCCI.
The team is not likely to travel to Pakistan, but either way, the government will make a decision. Therefore, they are working to have a hybrid model. For instance, India could have its matches hosted in UAE or Sri Lanka during the Asia cup. ICC may want to have its say over this, but at the moment, it is what we are contemplating. Only time will tell what will happen afterwards, given that as it stands now the chances are that it will be done in such a manner according to the source.
