ICC drops a massive verdict regarding BCCI and PCB’s recent tussle

In a new twist to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s refusal to print ‘Pakistan’ on the team’s kits for the Champions Trophy based on the tournament logo, the International Cricket Council has conveyed clearly that the Indian board is under obligation to put ‘Pakistan’ on the kit because it is supposed to be the original host for the tournament, as per media reports. Further reports suggest that the BCCI does not really want ‘Pakistan’ written on the team kit reportedly by virtue of what are called ‘host nation regulations’. So, this probably tells us that the Indian team will be playing its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai.

“Every team should add the tournament logo to their jerseys as it is a matter of responsibility. All teams are supposed to comply with this code,” an ICC official said while speaking to A-Sports.

The apex board has also suggested that the Indian team might face strict action if the Champions Trophy logo is not found on the players’ kit displaying the name of the host country Pakistan.

According to ICC guidelines, whenever the tournament is hosted, the name of the host must be written on the jerseys of all teams irrespective of where matches are actually held.

The IANS reported that the BCCI is not very keen to have it read as Pakistan on the team’s shirts, while the Pakistan Cricket Board is reported to have refuted having received any such correspondence from the Indian board.

The BCCI and the PCB have had a very tense few months, especially after the Indian board refused to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The BCCI has been able to reach a compromise with the PCB, but it may have to pay dearly for it in the future when it hosts the next few ICC events.

There remains the suspense whether Rohit Sharma, captain of India, will travel to Pakistan for an opening ceremony that involves all the skippers of the competing teams. It is still not known whether the BCCI is going to allow him to cross the border.
