Selected from a competitive pool of 21 nations, these six countries have demonstrated exceptional commitment to growing the game through innovative programs and inspiring on-field performances. The ICC Development Awards, established in 2002, spotlight the remarkable efforts of associate member countries in expanding cricket’s global footprint.
Mexico: Cricket Behind Bars
Mexico has earned recognition for its pioneering spirit in cricket development. Notably, the country’s Cricket in Prisons program has made a profound impact by introducing the sport to inmates across Mexico City. This initiative aims to contribute to the rehabilitation process through cricket-based activities.
Additionally, Mexico’s participation in the Street Child Cricket World Cup in India underscores its dedication to engaging diverse communities. Ben Owen, Chairman of Mexico Cricket, expressed immense pride in winning the award and emphasized the nation’s commitment to growing cricket in Central America.
Oman: Empowering Women Through Cricket
Oman has made significant strides in women’s cricket with its Cricket4Her program. By fostering an environment conducive to talent development and skill enhancement, the program has empowered countless young women to pursue their cricket dreams. The initiative’s success is evident in the formation of 16 softball teams and nine hardball cricket league teams, creating a robust pathway for women to excel in the sport.
Pankaj Khimji, Chairman of Oman Cricket, believes this award will propel Oman’s women’s cricket to even greater heights, solidifying the country’s position as a leader in the sport.
Netherlands: A Year of Triumph
The Netherlands cricket team enjoyed a remarkable 2023, culminating in qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Their inspiring victories over West Indies and Scotland paved the way to India, where they further showcased their talent by defeating Bangladesh and South Africa.
Monica Visser, Chief Executive of the KNCB, attributed this success to the dedicated players and coaching staff led by Ryan Cook.
United Arab Emirates: Women’s Cricket Soars

Cricket Scotland’s partnership with Beyond Boundaries has yielded impressive results in using cricket as a catalyst for social change.
