The governing body for cricket worldwide, the International Cricket Council (ICC), is about to finalize the hybrid model for the 2025 edition of the Champions Trophy. According to Cricbuzz’s report posted Friday, the ICC Board got a call for Saturday and newly inducted chairman Jay Shah will join the meeting virtually from Brisbane. Reportedly, top bosses will agree to an outcome agreed upon by the three central parties-the ICC, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Most likely, Pakistan will be the representative “host” of the ICC Champions Trophy, and 10 of 15 matches will take place in at least 3 venues in Pakistan. The remaining three group stage matches and one semi-final with the final would be played in the United Arab Emirates.
“Whether the BCCI has acceded to PCB’s requirement of a similar hybrid model for the ICC events to be held in India over the coming few years is not clear. This has been the sticking point between the parties. However, it is learnt that some middle ground has been reached on the issue. It is unlikely, however, that the BCCI would be giving any written assurances-the sticking point between the parties,” the Cricbuzz report read.
India will stage the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, with Sri Lanka, India will co-host the next edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026. Also, India has will host in 2025 the Asia Cup probable held in T20.
The last time India visited Pakistan for a cricket series was in the month of June and July 2008. It played its Asia Cup matches at the National Stadium Karachi. India was supposed to go to Pakistan last year for the Asia Cup. However, all of India’s matches in the group stage and Super Fours, as well as the final, were held in Sri Lanka due to the tense political relations between the two countries.
In the last 16 years, Pakistan has made its way to India four times. Of these four visits, three have been in time for participation in ICC events held by India.
