It has been reported that PCB has come into an agreement with ICC and BCCI about holding the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid format with all matches of India scheduled to be played in Dubai.
As per an exclusive report by India Today, 10 matches are supposed to take place in Pakistan, whereas the much-anticipated match against India will also take place in Dubai with other matches of India. Further, if India is eliminated at league stages, the knockout stages will take place in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
Also, a principle agreement was made between BCCI and PCB that Pakistan would not travel for the 2026 T20 World Cup for their match India vs. Pakistan. They would take place in Sri Lanka as they are the co-hosts.
According to the report, PCB will be compensated for not hosting the tournament for having held the ICC Women’s tournament after 2027.
As per the report, the PCB wanted to hold their games in Colombo with semi-final and final venues yet to be decided.
“But according to a different report by PTI, the move is not finalised yet”. This report claims that both of them have an agreement in principle that they would not travel to the other country for ICC events.
PTI was told by one ICC official that, Tomorrow, there is a virtual meeting in which by ICC chairman Jay Shah will be joining from Brisbane. After this it is expected that ICC will make a formal announcement.”
The event is going to be held from the 19th February to the 9th March. There will be two groups in which these eight teams will be divided and the top two will then qualify for the semi-finals.
The most recent Asian contest for men was being held in 2023 in a similar hybrid format, that is, two games of the tournament were played with Pakistan, while India played their matches in Sri Lanka.
According to the report, there has been no official announcement on the tournament’s going to take place after a seven-year break. Reigning champions Pakistan defend by smashing India in a final brute force of 180 runs.
India and Australia are the most successful sides in this tournament having won two titles each. The Indian team shared the title with Sri Lanka in 2002 and won it in 2013. Australia won their titles in 2006 and 2009.
