England Test skipper Ben Stokes is open to rejoin the Test setup, especially after the appointment of Brendon McCullum as the head coach. McCullum has already transformed England’s Test team, and is now to take over the limited-over team for England’s tour to India in January.
“If I get the call and (Baz) says, ‘Do you want to come and play?’ Then obviously, it’s definitely going to be a yes,” Stokes told Sky Sports.
“But, I’m not going to be too disappointed if I don’t, because I can just sit back and watch everyone else go out and smack it.”
Though Stokes has not appeared in a T20 international since 2022, England’s selector Luke Wright hinted that Stokes and Joe Root are still considered for future Test teams, especially for the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
However, Stokes has said that there has not been any formal discussion on this. His focus is mainly on the Test team.
“I’ve played a lot of white-ball cricket for England, and I’m very happy with what I’ve achieved in that form of the game. But to be honest, we’ve not even spoken about anything like that whatsoever,” he said.
“I think he’s just letting me concentrate on what I need to concentrate on, especially around the Test team.”
