Jurel, India’s newest wicket-keeper-batter is in the making. Jurel was impressive during the recent home series against England and has now been included in the Indian squad for a two-match affair against Bangladesh at home.
In an interview with Jatin Sapru on his YouTube channel, Jurel spoke about how it felt to play under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and mentioned his very raw style, where he can be aggressive on the field but is also like a caring brother off it.
“He doesn’t sit with the seniors; he calls for youngsters like me Sarfaraz or Jaiswal and asks us what it is all about. If you ask me, it is fun,” Jurel disclosed.
According to Jurel, Rohit Sharma has established greater demand from them than before because he expects all of them to give their best effort as being privileged enough to represent their country in cricket -the most popular sport around.
He just wants that, for instance, when we play for India on the ground, then you cannot just be loose. Every time you need to give your best because everybody is watching. Not everybody can play for India,” he shared.
“Even he gives his all too and may instruct us from here and there but by the time it’s evening and after that match, everything is just normal,” he added.
With the return of Rishabh Pant into Test cricket scene, Jurel has reduced chances of appearing in Test matches. However, in some recent pasts he is perhaps the best second-choice wicketkeeper-batter India has ever had.
In limited overs while not participating in longer format as Jurel plays for Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League and captains Gorakhpur Lions in UPT20 league as well.
Just like MS Dhoni who is his idol, Jurel also performs satisfactorily as a finisher and it appears that he might be groomed for Royals’ finisher role in future provided he remains part of the franchise.
