Iga Swiatek announces split with coach Wim Fissette following early Miami Open exit

World No. 3 Iga Swiatek announced today that she has ended her coaching partnership with Wim Fissette. The decision comes after the surprising opening-round loss at the Miami Open, marking a shift for the Polish star as the tour moves toward the clay-court season.

Swiatek and Fissette began their collaboration in October 2024, following her split from long-time coach Tomasz Wiktorowski. During their 17 months together, the pair achieved a major career milestone: Swiatek’s first-ever Wimbledon title in 2025.

Despite that historic win on grass (a surface Swiatek had previously struggled with) the 2026 season has been more challenging. Recent results include:

  • A quarter-final exit at the Australian Open.
  • Early departures from Indian Wells and Doha.
  • A shocking three-set loss to Magda Linette in Miami last week, which ended Swiatek’s 73-match winning streak in opening rounds.

Statements from Swiatek and Fissette

Swiatek shared the news via Instagram, expressing a mix of gratitude and a need for a fresh start.

“Wim, thank you for this time and for the lessons I’ve learned thanks to you. I wish you all the best – both professionally and personally.” Swiatek wrote.

Fissette, a veteran coach who has previously guided stars like Naomi Osaka and Kim Clijsters, responded with his own post, noting that while they “both wanted and worked for more,” he was proud to have helped her win Wimbledon seven years after first meeting her at the junior champions dinner.

What’s Next for the World No. 3?

The timing of the split is critical. Swiatek is currently ranked No. 3 in the world, having recently been overtaken by Elena Rybakina. She now enters the European clay-court swing, her most successful surface, without a primary coach.

Swiatek confirmed that the rest of her support team, including her psychologist and fitness coach, remains unchanged. She has not yet announced a successor for Fissette, stating she will share more “at the right time.”
