A fantastic day of cricket unfolded in Perth, where both India and Australia displayed their prowess with the ball. Let’s look at IND vs AUS 1st Test Day 1 Updates Today.

The stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah kept Australian top-order in check and removed their three main batters cheaply, including dangerous Steve Smith for none.

Harshit Rana, who made his debut got the wicket of Travis Head to provide Bumrah with support from the other end. Siraj too joined the party and removed Mitchell Marsh for six and Marnus Labuschagne for two, as Australia ended the day of Perth Test at 67 for 7, trailing by 83 runs.

Fast bowlers dominance in Perth

India witnessed a shaky start to their Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign after being bowled out for only 150 runs in first innings of the series opener at Perth.

Team India’s leading run-scorer in 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal got out for zero, while Devdutt Padikkal, who received the chance in place of injured Shubman Gill, also being dismissed without opening his account.

Virat Kohli’s dry run continued as he only hit 5. KL Rahul (26) was looking in good touch before being given out by third umpire that also sparked outrage on the social media.

India lost half of their side at 59, and their sixth on 73. Pant and the debutant Nitish Reddy then added 48 for the eight wickets before Pant left the crease after scoring 37.

Reddy tried his best with the bat and scored 41, as India bundled out for 150.

Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowler for Australia with four wickets. Cummins, Starc and Marsh bagged 2-2 wickets each.

Why did third umpire overturn Rahul’s not out decision?

Mitchell Starc’s delivery that swung slightly away from KL Rahul’s bat and landed right in the wicketkeeper’s grasp. There was a noise when the ball passed the bat, but the on-field umpire ruled it not-out. The Australians were dissatisfied with the decision and took DRS.

A spike was visible when the ball crossed the bat, however Rahul’s bat contacted the pad shortly after, raising the question whether the ball actually hit the bat, or the sound came from when the bat hitting the pad?

The third umpire didn’t explore all the angles and despite not having enough evidence, he overturned the on-field umpire’s decision that shocked Rahul and his controversial dismissal left India in trouble.
