Fast bowler Arundhati Reddy is the notable omission from India’s white-ball squads for the upcoming West Indies series, with several fresh faces earning their maiden call-ups. Nandini Kashyap and Raghvi Bist joined the T20I squad, while Pratika Rawal and Tanuja Kanwar have been added to the ODI roster.
Reddy’s exclusion came as a surprise, more so after she had lit up the T20 World Cup, taking seven wickets in four matches and emerging as India’s joint-highest wicket-taker. She has been asked to concentrate on domestic cricket with Hyderabad in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy despite her impressive 4-for-26 in the third ODI against Australia.
Shafali Verma remains out of the running for both squads having been omitted from the Australian ODIs. D Hemalatha has also missed out in the T20I squad, and even though Radha Yadav performed impressively against New Zealand, she will miss out on the ODIs too. The injured Yastika Bhatia, Shreyanka Patil, and Priya Punia won’t make it to the team.
The selectors have rewarded several promising performers. Wicketkeeper-batter Kashyap, who was Uttarakhand’s top scorer in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, amassed 247 runs, including a blistering 117 not out. Bist also impressed with her consistency, notching three consecutive half-centuries during India A’s series against Australia A, followed by a match-winning 71 in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy final.
Rawal, who hit 161 runs in 2021, has been consistent and completed as the second-highest scorer of this year’s Under-23 One-Day Trophy with 411 runs. Left-arm spinner Kanwar, who has played four T20Is, also returns to the side.
The first three T20Is of the series will be held in Navi Mumbai, starting from December 15, followed by three ODIs in Vadodara on December 22, 24, and 27.
