What is the qualification round and why is it important?

The qualification round sets the seedings for the knockout competition, starting Sunday. There are 128 archers, with 64 male and 64 female archers. Each of them shoot 72 arrows to determine their rankings for the single-elimination bracket.

The top-ranked archer faces the lowest-ranked archer, the second-ranked faces the second-lowest, and so on.

For team events, the same rankings determine seedings. The total scores of the archers are used in men’s and team events. For the mixed team event, the combined scores of the top male and female archers from each nation will be used.

The top four seeded teams in the men’s and women’s events get direct entry into the quarterfinals. Teams seeded 5th to 12th compete in the round of 16, with winners advancing to the quarters. Only the top 16 teams qualify for the mixed team event.
