The Suryakumar Yadav-led side piled up 256 for 4, the highest total of this tournament and India’s biggest ever in T20 World Cup history.

After a 76-run loss against South Africa had put the Suryakumar Yadav-led side under huge pressure, the defending champions upped their game against Zimbabwe.

India’s batters came out with clear intent and never let Zimbabwe settle.

Abhishek Sharma smashed 55 off just 30 balls at the top. He attacked the bowlers early and gave India the fast start they badly needed.

Later, Hardik Pandya finished the innings in style with an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls. His clean hitting in the final overs pushed India past the 250 mark.

Zimbabwe had no answers while chasing such a massive target. India’s bowlers kept things tight and picked wickets at regular intervals.

With this win, India moved to two points in Super 8 Group 1. Their net run rate improved to -0.100.

South Africa sit on top with four points and a strong net run rate of +2.890. They have already qualified for the semi-finals.

West Indies are second with two points and a net run rate of +1.791. Zimbabwe are out of the race with zero points.

Now all eyes turn to March 1, when India face West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata at 7 PM IST. South Africa will play Zimbabwe earlier in the day at 3 PM.

India’s T20 World Cup Semi-Final Qualification Scenario After Victory Over Zimbabwe

The equation is simple for India. If India beat West Indies by any margin, they will qualify for the semi-finals. But if West Indies win, or if the match is washed out and ends with no result, West Indies will go through because of their better net run rate.

India’s heavy defeat to South Africa had left their campaign in trouble. But this huge win over Zimbabwe has brought them back in control.

The clash against West Indies is now a virtual knockout. One match, one ticket to the semi-finals.
