Paris Olympics 2024: India starts with Deepika Kumari led Archery. India will begin its Paris Olympics campaign on Thursday. The first schedule is of Archery with Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai leading the archery team in the ranking rounds at Les Invalides.

For the first time since the London 2012 Olympics, India will field a full team of six archers, competing in all five medal events. There will be a men’s team, men’s individual, women’s team, women’s individual, and mixed team, according to Olympics.com.

Why the first round of Archery is critical for India

The first round is crucial for Indian archery’s success in the Olympics. This is because the performance of each of the six archers over 72 arrows will set the seedings for individual and team events.

The rankings will also determine the qualification for the mixed team competition. H8ere, only the top 16 pairs will advance to the next stage. For countries with both a men’s and women’s archer, the top scores from each category are combined to set the team’s seeding.

The top four teams from the ranking rounds in both men’s and women’s team competitions will move directly to the quarterfinals. Meanwhile ams seeded between eighth and twelfth will compete for the remaining quarterfinal spots.

Veteran archers Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai are set to make history at the Paris 2024 Olympics. These archers are marking their fourth Olympic Games appearance. For Kumari, this milestone comes with added significance as she returns to the Olympic stage after becoming a mother.

Their experience will be crucial as they lead India’s archery team. The team includes second-time Olympian Pravin Jadhav and newcomers Dhiraj Bommadevara, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat.

Despite their previous Olympic outings, Kumari and Rai, along with their teammates, are still in pursuit of a win. A victory will ensure India’s first-ever Olympic medal in archery. The competition begins on July 25 at Les Invalides, with both archers aiming to capitalize on their wealth of experience.
