A talented domestic batter and an India Test prospect has recently opened up on his desire to land an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract.

Bengal batter Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has come close to getting the India cap a few times, highlighted the importance of playing in the IPL.

Speaking to Indian Express, Easwaran said, “I want to play in the IPL because it is the biggest league in the world and you want to play with the best. It gives you a lot of exposure. You improve as a cricketer for sure. I’ve seen a lot of cricketers get into the IPL and come back as better players. But whether that is a disadvantage or advantage, I cannot comment on that.”

Abhimanyu Easwaran has looked in incredible form domestic cricket

Easwaran has displayed outstanding form in red-ball cricket, having scored centuries in each of his last four matches.

Recently, he hit a century in a Ranji Trophy game against Uttar Pradesh, followed by a knock of 191 against Mumbai in the Irani Cup. He also registered two centuries in the Duleep Trophy.

With over 7,500 runs across 99 first-class games, Easwaran has accumulated 27 centuries and 29 half-centuries. Although he was part of the Indian squad during the England tour and the 2021 WTC final, he didn’t get an opportunity to debut. He was last with the team during their tour of South Africa in December.

Despite boasting such impressive stats, he was not included in the squad for the current three-match Test series against New Zealand.

However, there still remains an outside chance for the 29-year-old to make his senior team debut with skipper Rohit Sharma expected to miss the starting phase of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, to be held in November-December.
