Indian cricketer who represents Ireland in international cricket is now battling with this life-threatening disease

Simi Singh, an Ireland cricket player is waiting for his liver transplant in a private hospital situated in Gurugram, Haryana. The 37-year-old all-rounder is critically ill with acute liver failure and has been in the private hospital ICU since he returned from Ireland this June. According to a report by The Times of India, around six months back Simi got a “strange fever” while he was still in Ireland but no treatment was started as required due to a lack of diagnosis on the disease from doctors in Dublin.

With worsening conditions, it was then decided by parents that he should come back to India for treatment. “The process was getting delayed and Simi’s health was deteriorating, so we decided to get him treated in India for ‘better medical attention’,” said Simi’s father-in-law Parvinder Singh in an interview with the publication.

Simi was born in Mohali (Punjab) and played age-group cricket in India before he moved on to looking for hotel management courses in Ireland when his cricket career suffered some setbacks. But there remained traces of this sport in him until finally, he started playing club cricket there.

Thus far, since his debut in 2017, he has played 35 ODIs and 53 T20Is and represented Ireland at international level. In ODIs, the all-rounder off-spinner made a century against South Africa and took five wickets against UAE.

Simi initially treated for Tuberculosis at PGI in Chandigarh but the medication didn’t have any impact. Simi was then transferred to a private facility where it was concluded he doesn’t have TB. The medical staff however stated that the cricketer will have to finish treatment but his fever kept increasing and after some time, he developed acute jaundice.

Simi then returned again to PGI where they were told he has acute liver failure and advised him to go Gurugram for treatment where liver transplant is awaited.

Agamdeep Kaur Simi’s wife has supposedly consented to do so.

“Thank God Simi has blood group AB+ therefore he can receive from anyone,” It’s not a problem for her to match with doctors say. The transplant should take place shortly and doctors are optimistic Kamali will live a new life,” TOI quoted a close relative as saying.
