India’s Fielding Coach Retained to Join Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff?

With Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as Team India’s head coach confirmer, the hunt begun to find the team’s bowling coach, fielding coach, and batting coach. Gambhir, who proved himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign as Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) head coach, has shared his preferences with the BCCI. A report has now claimed the assistant coach of KKR Abhishek Nayar, is set to join Gambhir as an assistant coach.

Nayar’s name came at the top as soon as Team India’s hunt for Gambhir’s coaching staff began. Having worked with Nayar, Gambhir knows what he is capable of bringing to the table, and hence, was wanting to add him as the coach.

According to a report, Nayar is all set to join Team Gambhir, but the BCCI is not so keen on the two other names that Gambhir has given for bowling coaches. Gambhir has reportedly given names of L Balaji and R Vinay Kumar for bowling coach role, but the board in said to be not interested in the two.

Instead, BCCI wants someone who has a high-profile and someone who can guide youngsters like Mayank Yadav, Tushar Deshpande, Harshit Rana, etc.

As for the fielding coach, BCCI is reportedly looking to extend T Dilip’s stay. Dilip was a part of Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff but his tenure ended after T20 World Cup 2024.

“The Board also congratulates Mr. Paras Mhambrey(bowling coach), Mr. T Dilip(Fielding coach) and Mr. Vikram Rathour(batting coach) on a highly successful tenure. The BCCI values their contribution and wishes then the best going forward,” The BCCI release said.
