Brian Cage is ready for his comeback.
AEW star Brian Cage has been sidelined for over a year due to a knee injury. Cage ultimately had three different knee surgeries since stepping away from the ring in March 2025, but says he’s finally cleared to return.
Cage confirmed the news during a recent interview with Wendy Fortino for Muscle and Fitness. While he hasn’t made his in-ring return yet, Cage said he had a practice match to get cleared the day before the interview was recorded. He said that he initially had doubts, but was “totally fine” getting through the match.
“I haven’t made my return yet. I just got cleared fully from everyone to be able to come back. So then, there’s the hopes of that too, of like, okay, this is a perfect way to press restart and start new and come back and re-debut in a good way, in a new way, bigger way, whatever, and make the best of a bad situation,” Cage said (via Fightful).
Brian Cage had to test his knee in a practice match
“I had the match to get cleared yesterday, and one of the things he wanted me to do was get up to just the second rope and jump off. The other guy, he moves and I just have to land on my feet… which is, like, nothing, right? But in my head, I go, can I do that? I’m like, I don’t know. It’s not that crazy but, you don’t know… I have post-surgery knees. I’m like, wait, can I? I don’t know. I guess we’ll find out, and yeah, I did it. It was totally fine.”
Cage noted that he considered changing his in-ring style, noting that he will be “dialing back” on aerial moves to save them for bigger situations.
Prior to his absence, Cage was working as a member of the Don Callis Family stable. His last match was a six-man tag team win on the March 22, 2025 “Slam Dunk Saturday” edition of AEW Collision.
