Maxx Crosby and his future with the Las Vegas Raiders remain one of the top storylines early in the NFL season. With the Silver and Black already having a new head coach in Klint Kubiak, the team can now start blueprinting its offseason targets in free agency and the draft.
Now, the question is: What is the timeline for this rebuild? If the Raiders believe that they are two or three years away from contending in the AFC, then it would be wise to offload Crosby for draft capital.
Amid the speculation, Sports Illustrated’s NFL insider Albert Breer appeared on ESPN Chicago and shared an update on Crosby’s future in Las Vegas.
“I would say with Maxx, I don’t think the ship has sailed on him staying with the Raiders,” Breer said on Feb. 10. “Just because there’s a new coach in there now, we have no idea how Klint Kubiak is going to address that situation or how he is going to staff it. I would tell you that Maxx Crosby is fiercely loyal to Mark Davis and to the Raiders brand. I think he would love to be a guy who played his entire career for one organization.
“Now that said, what happened at the end of the year happened, and you can’t erase that. Things are not great between him and Tom Brady right now, and I don’t think things are great between him and Alex Guerrero either. I think the reason the door is open to him being traded, where it wasn’t previously, is really about relationship management and how the team handled the end of last year.”
When Could Raiders Resolve Speculation Over Maxx Crosby
Moreover, Breer provided clarity on the Raiders’ stance on whether they’d consider offers for Crosby or let the rest of the league know that their star pass rusher isn’t on the market.
“Now we go into the next chapter, where he has a chance to converse with the new coaching staff, and then we see where it goes from there,” Breer added. “I think this thing comes to a head in two weeks at the combine. That would be my guess right now.”
Maxx Crosby Addresses Speculation About His Future
Meanwhile, Crosby again spoke about the speculation surrounding his future with the Raiders. Although Crosby didn’t say he’s committed to the Raiders, the veteran pass rusher did say that he’s not paying any attention to the rumors about him.
“People are going to have rumors,” Crosby said in a Feb. 11 video from SiriusXM NFL Radio from his appearance on “Let’s Go!” “I just looked at my phone. I’ve been working all morning. I got another. Everyone’s hitting me up: ‘Did you say this?‘ I can’t control that. You earn that as a player. If I wasn’t doing the right things and if I wasn’t the person and player I was, people wouldn’t be talking about all the nonsense.
“If you have drama, if you have a losing season, they just try to throw gasoline on the fire. I know what I’m about; I really don’t care what everybody has to say [and] I used to care a lot as a young guy. [Now], I really don’t give a damn.
“People could have their own opinions. I know what’s going on; I know my truth [and] I don’t need to sit here and keep rehashing it to that people don’t know what’s going on. My focus has been on getting healthy because that’s all I can control right now.”
