A member of India’s Parliament and a big cricket fan, Shashi Tharoor, has criticized the BCCI’s selection committee for the teams chosen for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The chosen teams had some unexpected players left out, which caught Tharoor’s attention. He spoke out against the decision to leave out Sanju Samson from the One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Abhishek Sharma from the Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Although Samson was included in the team for the T20 series against Sri Lanka, Abhishek, who recently scored a great century in a five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, was not selected for the tour.
“Interesting squad selection for India’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month. @IamSanjuSamson , who hit a century in his last ODI, has not been picked for ODIs, while @IamAbhiSharma4, who hit a T20I century in the #INDvZIM series, has not been picked at all. Rarely has success in India colours mattered so little to the selectors! Good luck to the team anyway,” wrote Tharoor.
Suryakumar Yadav will be the captain for India’s T20 matches against Sri Lanka, and Shubman Gill will be his assistant for the three-game series. In the meantime, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are part of the One Day International (ODI) team for the same tour, with Rohit also leading the team. Gill will also serve as the assistant captain in the ODI series.
