Interim appointed as Tranmere sack manager after 10 losses from 11 League Two games

An interim in Andy Parkinson has been appointed as Tranmere sack manager Andy Crosby after 10 losses from 11 League Two games.

Tranmere currently find themselves sitting 19th in the table, eight points above the drop zone, with 11 games of the season left to play following Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Newport County.

Tensions has increased between the club’s owners and fanbase with uncertainty of a proposed takeover, reportedly by an American consortium, with it said in the New Year’s Day message that it was close to being finalised, but two months on, still no update.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Tranmere Rovers can confirm that Andy Crosby has been relieved of his duties as first team manager with immediate effect.

Chairman Mark Palios said: “Andy did a great job for us last year and has undoubtedly been dealt a tough hand this season with the exceptionally high level of injuries we have experienced.

“However, I felt a change was unfortunately necessary to try to address the poor run of results.

“I have no doubt that Andy has put his all into the role over the last 12 months in difficult circumstances, and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Andy Parkinson will take interim control for Saturday, and Connor Jennings will step up to assist alongside Joe Murphy.

Crosby said, per Gazette Herald: “As the manager of the football club the run we’re on is my responsibility,.

“But I’m a big boy and I’ll keep doing everything I possibly can to change this run around. I’m giving absolutely everything.”

“I’m really proud of that second-half effort,” said Crosby. “The run we’re obviously on is a really difficult run, and to go down to 10 men at the end of the first half made it even more difficult for us.

“But the togetherness of the group, the organisation, the resilience, the mental strength to keep going means that I can see a group who are giving absolutely everything for themselves and for the football club.

“We have to use that as energy, as fuel to move forward. It’s obviously a really disappointing result. We have to go again at home against Oldham and we have to use that siege mentality – it’s us against the world.”

“It’s very important,” said Newport’s Christian Fuchs. “When you are down at the bottom for such a long time, it lifts the group [to be out of it]. It lifts the spirits.

“It’s definitely a great feeling, but it’s just the first step. We know that Barrow have two games in hand, we are aware of that.

“We now have seven points from the last four games and there are a lot of positives to build on.

“Every game is a cup final for us now, and that is how we’re going to approach it. Not a single game is easy but we want to build momentum.

“I’m very proud of the players because it’s not easy to play against a team with one man down. They stayed very patient, stuck to the plan and got what they deserved.”

Fair to say there was quite the reaction online with an interim appointed as Tranmere sack their manager after 10 losses from 11 League Two games…

@Gidsentinel: Andy, I don’t know if you’ll read this. it didn’t work out, you’ll know that. You’re a fantastic person though. Glad that weight is off your shoulders and thank you for last season and also the respect. Properly sorry it didn’t work out 🇸🇱

@TranmereMoaners: This changes nothing for Saturday btw… posters are still getting put up everywhere

@aaron_w2931: What’s the chances that Parkinson wins a few games, gets given the job full time and then it’s the same situation in 12 months time

@benjitrfc: Get parky out this club. Hes responsible aswell as Crosby. Genuinely is jobs for the boys with palios. Nothing changes.

@GazzyHay: Utter shambles for a professional football club to have 1 full time coach left in the building is shocking. No manager, no assistant manager all season, 1 full time coach, no youth set up, what’s happened to our club?

@ham_ezz: Appreciate him keeping us up last season, but he had to go. Nice guy im sure but he lost the plot this season

@CraigPerkins17: Thanks for keeping us up last season Andy, sad its come to this. However it had to happen. Form is wretched and the axe should have come sooner. Parky should be out as well. Now this heartless group of players must respond starting on Saturday. SWA

@JonathanBruffe1: So, the thing we all feared has happened… Parkinson in charge! He’s now outlasted countless managers who’ve been sacked. Maybe just maybe Palios needs to wake up and realise this whole promotion from within isn’t working. HUGE clear out still needed.

@MattMcardlx: Inevitable. Cheers for keeping us up last season. All well & good saying now but should NEVER have given another unproven coach the fulltime job despite last years heroics. IMHO, we need an entirely new set of coaches with new ideas & tactics. Let’s stop repeating the past.

@bezza_TRFC: Was inevitable, but can’t blame Andy for the situation. Lots of uncertainty from top too bottom at Tranmere, and Injuries haven’t helped at all. Best of luck Andy.

@prentonpete: The right decision. And then the bloody wrong one. Parkinson cannot be there for more than 1 game. What happens when Murphy fit? He has to play? Jenno putting the cones out on one leg? This club.

@Davismax1884: We all know what happens here then, Parky gets a few wins keeps us up gets it permanently then we’ll be in the exact same position this time next year, Rinse and repeat

@matthew_j194: Correct decision. Too late but ultimately the right decision. I really wanted it to work, seemed like a genuinely top guy, but ultimately

@lennyb1983: One issue dealt with but now we have 1 (ONE!!!!!) full time coach at the whole club. One. Let that sink in. Throwing CJ to the wolves as well is disgusting. We are still fucked as nobody will want to come work for a club where they have no coaching set up. What a mess #trfc #swa

@RicciTRFC: Had to happen, worrying we have just passed it on to more internal coaches, it’s all he ever does and it never works. Was always going to happen, mind #trfc #swa

@JackWK97: For those that are still going Saturday, make sure you don’t let the dictator slide just because he’s sacked Crosby. Him and all the others need to go aswell #TRFC #SWA

@roversvision: It was inevitable. Grateful for what Andy did last season, but that’s in the past, You can’t be going from 1.77 points per game (27 from 13) to 1.05 (43 from 41) and still see that in his words ‘reasonable’. You could tell he’d lost his charm not only in the dressing room but also from the bluffing in interviews. A backroom staff consisting of an assistant manager who’s outlasted six managers in six years, and two players (Including our soon to return goalkeeper) isn’t exactly appealing, although that won’t ever change under this ownership.
