Celebrating International Women’s Day at Old Wesley: Meet Cate
As part of International Women’s Day, Old Wesley RFC is proud to celebrate the incredible girls and young women who are shaping the future of our club — on and off the pitch.
In the lead‑up to International Women’s Day, we are shining a spotlight on some of the fantastic players within our girls’ section. These profiles celebrate not only their commitment to rugby, but also the confidence, friendships and life skills the sport helps to build.
Introducing Cate
Cate is the longest‑serving girl in Old Wesley RFC, having first pulled on a rugby jersey at just five years of age. Now almost ten years into her rugby journey, Cate has grown from a young beginner into a committed player, an emerging coach, and a wonderful role model for others coming through the club.
Her journey is a powerful example of what long‑term participation in sport can offer — development, resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.

More Than a Game
Rugby at Old Wesley is about more than competition. It’s about community, confidence, and creating an environment where girls can thrive. Cate’s story reflects the positive impact that inclusive, supportive clubs can have when young players are encouraged to start early and stay involved.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we are incredibly proud of all the girls and women who represent Old Wesley — whether as players, coaches, volunteers, or supporters.
We look forward to sharing more stories like Cate’s as we continue to celebrate the strength, commitment and passion of women and girls in rugby.
