IPL 2025 Playoff venues Update: In a major development ahead of the crucial knockout stage of the Indian Premier League 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a revised playoff schedule, citing logistical challenges and adverse weather conditions, particularly due to early monsoon patterns.
The IPL playoffs will now be split between Ahmedabad and New Chandigarh, with both cities set to host high-stakes matches. Additionally, a key league fixture has been relocated from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to heavy rainfall forecasts.
Ahmedabad to host IPL 2025 final
As per the updated itinerary, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium will play host to Qualifier 2 on June 1 and the grand finale on June 3. With a seating capacity of over 130,000 and a proven track record from hosting finals in 2022 and 2023, the venue remains a prime choice for decisive encounters.
In a significant first, the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur will debut as a playoff host. The stadium in New Chandigarh is set to stage Qualifier 1 on May 29 and the Eliminator on May 30.
Kolkata and Hyderabad were the original hosts of the IPL 2025 playoffs, but the venue changes are driven by persistent weather concerns, particularly in South India, where early monsoon showers have raised red flags.
RCB vs SRH shifted to Lucknow
RCB’s previous home game on May 17 against Kolkata Knight Riders was called off without a ball being bowled due to rain, and to avoid further weather trouble, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s last home fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad, initially scheduled for May 23 in Bengaluru, has been shifted to Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium.
RCB will now conclude their league phase with back-to-back games in Lucknow, including their final league match against Lucknow Super Giants on May 27.
The decision to reshuffle comes after a yellow alert was issued in Bengaluru, forecasting heavy rainfall until May 23. The IPL’s adaptive scheduling underlines its commitment to ensuring smooth operations and a fair competition environment for all teams heading into the business end of the tournament.
