As the Indian Premier League (IPL) enters a fresh cycle, the money involved has increased, with cash flowing more than ever. Each team has a whopping INR 120 crore purse, and players’ salary has surged massively compared to the previous edition.
The trend started with the IPL 2025 retentions, as franchises gave handsome retention fees to their premium players. Heinrich Klaasen earned the most-ever retention fees, getting INR 23 crores from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Other expensive players on the list are Nicholas Pooran and Virat Kohli, who get INR 21 crores each from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), respectively. Further, several players earned the highest retention slab of INR 18 crores from their franchises ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

There were also several emerging stars whose prices surged massively compared to previous editions. For instance, Rinku Singh’s IPL salary has risen to INR 13 crores for the next season from INR 55 Lakhs last season, showing how rewarding the league can be.
