The countdown has begun. The IPL Retention deadline has arrived! At 5 PM IST, the ten franchises will announce their retention lists for IPL 2025. This event is crucial as it could reshape the tournament, sending several big names into the auction pool.
Speculation is running rampant. Reports indicate that Lucknow Super Giants may release their captain, KL Rahul. Similarly, Delhi Capitals are likely to part ways with Rishabh Pant. Kolkata Knight Riders may also release their skipper Shreyas Iyer, and star all-rounder Andre Russell.
According to IPL retention rules, teams need to pay a hefty price for each retained player. The first retained player costs Rs 18 crore, the second Rs 14 crore, and the third Rs 11 crore. For uncapped players, teams will pay Rs 4 crore each. If a team retains five capped players, they will lose Rs 75 crore from their auction purse.
Teams can retain up to six players from their current squad, the highest limit in IPL history. The auction purse has also increased to Rs 120 crore this year, providing more flexibility for franchises as they prepare for the mega auction later this month.
