A mature yet explosive half-century from young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi steered Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a formidable 220/4 in their IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

He walked in during the Powerplay, after a great start given by the openers and initially adopted a cautious approach – he did not hit from ball one but took his time to assess the conditions. The 20-year-old shifted gears in the middle overs, dismantling the MI attack with absolute precision. He reached his fifty in just 29 deliveries, finishing with a strike rate of 175.86. In the third ball of the 19th over, he attempted to go aerial against a slower delivery from Hardik Pandya, mistimed it and was comfortably caught at long off by Tilak Varma.

Raghuvanshi’s innings was based on elite timing, as he struck six boundaries and two sixes which did not let the run rate drop below 10 per over.

Inspite of a three-wicket haul from MI debutant Shardul Thakur, Raghuvanshi’s 51-run contribution remained the backbone of the middle-order. Cameos from Finn Allen and Rinku Singh further bolstered the total, leaving Mumbai Indians with a daunting 221-run target in their opening home fixture of the season.
