Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming is hopeful of the availability of Dewald Brevis for the next home game against the Delhi Capitals (DC), which will be played on Saturday.
Brevis is yet to play a single game in the ongoing IPL 2026. The explosive middle-order batter suffered a side strain injury, which has kept him on the sidelines. He was expected to play in the last game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday, but the CSK management have been conservative with their South African recruit.
“We hope he is going to be right for the next game,” Fleming said during the CSK-RCB game. “We have five days between now and the next game. We have been conservative, and hopefully these next five days go as well as we have planned, and he is ready to go. It’s a big loss, but we are looking forward to getting him back.”
Brevis, who joined CSK as a replacement player last season, was retained by the five-time winners after he performed brilliantly with the bat last year. He emerged as one of the few positives in an otherwise disappointing season for CSK, amassing 225 runs from six innings at a strike rate of 180.00, including an impressive tally of 17 sixes.
CSK have missed the services of Brevis, as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team have lost all their games so far this season, including one at home. While Brevis is likely to play in the next game against an unbeaten DC side, there is uncertainty over MS Dhoni, who is nursing a calf strain.
