Sanju Samson as No3 in T20Is: The whole nation gets on their toes when Kerala’s star Sanju Samson gets ignored from the playing XI, however, his continued failure has severely impacted his chances of playing consistently for India. In the recent 2nd T20I between IND and SL the fan favourite Sanju Samson was given a chance after Shubman Gill was rested due to back spam.
Sanju Samson who usually bats at No.3 or sometimes at No.4 for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL has shown wonderful results over the years, however, when Sanju Samson got his chance on the international stage, he failed to make an impact and even worse he was dismissed for a duck by Theekshana.
This continued failure with limited opportunities has raised question marks about the future of the Rajasthan Royals skipper. Indian cricket is filled with talent and if players fail to use their chance then someone will overtake them. So performing at the highest when given an opportunity is the best way to create an impact, which Sanju Samson has been failing miserably.

Why does Sanju Samson Fail to deliver on the international stage?
While most of the critiques say that it’s the limited and inconsistent opportunity that is causing trouble for Sanju Samson to settle in, however considering the status of Sanju Samson in the domestic circuit and IPL it is shocking that for a player of his skills is failing to deliver for India on the international stage.
In his 25 innings for India, he has only scored 444 runs with an average of 20.18, moreover, he only has two fifties to his name with 77 being his highest score. While if you look at his IPL stats, in 167 matches he has smashed 4419 runs with an average of 30.69. So something is going wrong with Sanju while playing for India.
But in the recently concluded India tour of Zimbabwe he got a chance in the final three T20Is where he got to bat twice and scored 12*, 58 respectively. So it’s not like he is not performing but it’s the limited chances that causing him trouble settling in the Indian team.
Is Sanju Samson Ideal for No.3 Position in T20Is?
Lately, whenever Sanju Samson has gotten a chance he has never played a similar position. If you take an example of his recent chances, where in the Zimbabwe tour he got a chance in the third T20I where he came out to bat five down, then in the fifth T20I he got a chance to play as a No 4 where he went on to score 58 runs. Now lately he got a chance to play in his preferred position (No. 3) but he failed miserably as he was dismissed for a golden duck.
For Rajasthan Royals in IPL, he plays at No3 where he has been excellent in multiple editions of the Indian Premier League. So if given some time and chance with some stability in his playing position, it is sure that he will start delivering as he considered one of most talented players in Indian cricket.
