Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan who last featured for India in November 2023 has now been ruled out from the first match of the upcoming Duleep Trophy that is set to be played in Anantapur on September 5. Kishan is a part of the Shreyas Iyer-led Team D. Though the reason to Kishan’s withdrawal is so far unclear, it is suspected that he may be carrying an injury.
Sanju Samson, whose name wasn’t mentioned in the 4 teams that were announced by the selectors earlier, is likely to replace Kishan in Team D.
It is expected that Kishan will be participating in the later stages of the domestic tournament, however nothing is confirmed yet. Besides, the Duleep Trophy will also be subject to the Indian team selection for the upcoming 2-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Kishan, who was denied of central contracts by the BCCI earlier this year, represented Jharkhand in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai, but his participation was limited to only 2 games as his side could not proceed beyond the league stage. Jharkhand won the first and lost the second game before being knocked out.
