Ishan Kishan of India has finally revealed the reasons for his absence from international cricket, which accounted for his exit from the squad. Last time Kishan featured for India was during the third T20I of a five-match series against Australia held back in November. Since then he was included in the South African tour but pulled out of the Tests because he had some personal issues. Due to this reason Ishan Kishan decided not to play domestic cricket which in turn forced BCCI to terminate his central contract.
At that time, India’s head coach was Rahul Dravid, he had proposed that for Kishan to stage a comeback he would have to get into domestic matches and perform. Kishan on the other hand now says he was not in the right mindset to play Ranji Trophy games despite the fact that many people criticized him for missing them.
“I needed a rest, and that seemed okay. There’s a rule that says if you want to return to professional cricket, you have to play in local cricket first. It’s straightforward. But for me, playing in local cricket didn’t feel right. I wasn’t ready to play, so I took a break from international cricket. It didn’t make sense to take a break from international cricket and then play in local matches. If that was the case, I might as well have kept playing for India,” Kishan explained to the Indian Express.
“It was very sad. Today I really don’t feel like saying all is well, it has not been easy for me. I have been through a lot. In my mind…I kept wondering what’s up, what happened, why me. All these things happened while I was performing,” he concluded.
Kishan was in action during the Indian Premier League earlier this year despite not attending the South Africa tour and Ranji Trophy. Still, he managed 320 in 14 appearances, averaging 22.85 with a strike rate of 148.83. Therefore, he was left out by the management from the T20 World Cup squad, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson being named as the preferred wicketkeepers.
