The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is one of the most exciting teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has had some incredible and intense matches throughout the 18 years of the tournament, featuring the Men in Red.
Many rivalries have formed with RCB in the tournament. RCB’s legendary batter Virat Kohli was asked about this in an interview and revealed that Chennai Super Kings is the team that has given them the most intense games over the years. The 36-year-old cricketer also spoke about the massive fan following of the Yellow Brigade, noting how the franchise’s fans arrive in huge numbers, even at away games, to support their team. This is a big statement, especially ahead of the RCB-CSK game taking place on May 03.
“I would say one team that, historically, I’ve felt we’ve had the most intense games with is Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru. Because in Chennai, of course, there are Chennai fans—it’s just yellow and CSK fans everywhere,” Kohli said while speaking on JioHotstar.
“But to play against CSK in Bengaluru is something else, because a lot of Chennai fans come to Bengaluru. CSK fans travel in huge numbers, so they buy tickets very early and take over a section of the stadium,” the former RCB skipper added.
When IPL started, I never thought it could reach a stage like this: Kohli
During the interview, Virat Kohli also spoke about how the league has grown, and how he himself has grown and evolved as a player over 18 years in the tournament. The two-time World Champion had a lot of praise for the league and commended the professionalism and competitiveness it generates.
“It’s (IPL) been a long journey, one that we have seen grow, evolve, and become this amazing spectacle. Honestly, when IPL started, I never thought it could reach a stage like this. But 18 years and rolling, and every year you feel the same excitement—if not more—which is a massive credit to the league, the way it’s organised, the teams, the competitiveness, and the professionalism, top-notch,” the RCB legend said.
