Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka’s knock was instrumental in their commanding 105-run win over Oman on February 12 at Pallekele. With this victory, Sri Lanka sealed their second consecutive win in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Shanaka smashed a quick-fire 50 off just 20 balls, including two boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 250. His explosive innings provided the perfect finishing touch and lifted Sri Lanka to a massive 225/5 in 20 overs.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shanaka admitted that replacing Wanindu Hasaranga is never easy. Hasaranga got ruled out of the tournament after their first match against Ireland with a serious left hamstring tear.

“It’s very hard to replace someone like Wanindu because he is a champion bowler. But of course – Dushan Hemantha – so he’s been in the side for a while. In the absence of Wanindu, he played a few games here and there. So the confidence is there, but you know, straightaway coming to the game, it will be a bit harder.”

He further added, “I’m sure that he will come good in the next game. The confidence with the batting especially. So I mean, that’s one batting lead, you’re not taking a hit. So it was a concern in the recent past, so I’m really happy about the way Kusal Mendis went on in the last two games. So probably that should be the role that he must do in the next game as well. And each batter chipping on at the right time is important as well.”

With the ball, Sri Lanka were equally dominant. They restricted Oman to 120/9. Maheesh Theekshana and Dushmantha Chameera picked up two wickets each to ensure a comfortable win.

Sri Lanka will next face Australia on February 16 at Pallekele
