“I’ve been playing with Rohit for…”Shikhar Dhawan makes a bold statement regarding his bonding with Rohit Sharma.

For Friendship Day, Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan talked about his friendship with his teammate Rohit Sharma and mentioned a song that Rohit enjoyed singing while they played together. While the global Friendship Day is celebrated on July 30, India marks it on the first Sunday of August each year. In an interview with Star Sports, Dhawan shared, “I’ve been playing with Rohit for 8-10 years, so we have a strong connection. He’s a wonderful person. He really liked it when I sang a specific song on the field, ‘putt jattan de bulaonde bakre’. He would look at me and sing along. This happened many times. He knew a few lines from the song and would sing them and then laugh.”

Shikhar and Rohit form one of the most successful opening batting pairs in the history of modern cricket. Their partnership began during the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 when Rohit moved from the middle order to open alongside Shikhar, who was working to secure his place on the team at that time.

Between 2011 and 2022, in 173 innings, they combined to score 6,984 runs with an average of 40.84. They achieved 22 century partnerships and 22 half-century partnerships, with their highest partnership being 210 runs. They played key roles in many of India’s most memorable victories in the 2010s, especially in limited-overs cricket, including the win in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

Shikhar’s last international match for India was in December 2022 against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Rohit recently captained India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup final against South Africa in June and is currently leading the One Day International team as they prepare for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy on their tour against Sri Lanka.
