Jack Draper out of Australian Open due to arm injury

Jack Draper withdrew from the upcoming Australian Open on Friday, citing a bone bruise in his arm that has sidelined him since the 2025 U.S. Open.

“I’ve had this injury for a long time,” Draper said in a post on social media. “I’m at the very, very end stages of the [rehab] process, and to step back on court back into five-set tennis so soon just doesn’t seem like the smart decision for me and my tennis.

“It always seems to make me more resilient, to make me hungrier to become the player I want to become even more. I’m looking forward to getting back out there in 2026 and competing. I just want to thank everyone for all the support in 2025. It means the world to me to be competing and to be playing out there on the tour with the other guys. I’m looking forward to doing that again.”

The 24-year-old Brit called it “the most difficult, the most challenging, and the most complex” injury of his career so far.

That’s saying a lot, too, given Draper’s laundry list of physical problems throughout his young career. The world No. 10 also dealt with shoulder and abdominal issues in 2023 and 2024. He managed to stay injury free from January through the end of August this past season, during which he captured his first Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells. Draper appeared to be well on his way to a place in the Nitto ATP Finals until this current injury knocked him out of the U.S. Open.
