Ravindra Jadeja achieved a major milestone in his Test cricket career, completing 300 wickets during the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on September 30, 2024. Expressing his pride and gratitude, Jadeja reflected on his journey from being considered a white-ball specialist to becoming one of India’s premier Test all-rounders.
Speaking to Jio Cinema (via Cricbuzz), Jadeja shared his thoughts on reaching this landmark:
“It’s special (on completing 300 Test wickets). I’ve been playing Test cricket since 10 years and I’ve finally reached this milestone. Feeling proud of myself. Always happy and excited whenever I wear the Indian jersey. As a youngster, I started in white ball cricket.”
Jadeja emphasized that hard work and dedication were key factors in his transformation into a successful Test cricketer. Despite early perceptions of him being a white-ball player, Jadeja adapted and refined his game to make a significant impact in the longest format of the sport.
“Everyone used to say I’m a white-ball specialist. Gradually I improved my game and it has paid off in the last few years,” he added.
A Fastest Record for India
With this achievement, Jadeja became the second-quickest Indian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets, behind only Ravichandran Ashwin. In total, Jadeja is the seventh Indian cricketer to join the elite 300-wicket club. Moreover, he is also one of only three Indian all-rounders, alongside Kapil Dev and Ashwin, to score 3,000 Test runs in addition to claiming 300 wickets.
The Batting Approach
Beyond his bowling, Jadeja is also known for his valuable contributions with the bat. Discussing his batting strategy in Test matches, Jadeja said:
“When I go for batting, I always look to give myself some time and understand the situation. I react to the ball and play my shots.”
This simple but effective approach has allowed Jadeja to provide crucial runs for the Indian team in pressure situations.

India’s Commanding Position in the Match
At the close of Day 4, Bangladesh were 26/2 in their second innings, still trailing India by 26 runs. Jadeja praised his team’s aggressive yet well-planned batting, which helped India secure a 52-run lead in the first innings. He expressed hope that the Indian bowlers would quickly wrap up Bangladesh’s innings to secure victory.
As Jadeja continues to make strides in his illustrious career, his role as both a bowler and batsman will remain vital to India’s success in Test cricket.
