Jalal Yunus resigned from his positions as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and as the chairman of the cricket operations committee on Monday, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. The report states that the National Sports Council, which oversees 41 different sports organizations in Bangladesh, requested Yunus to step down. Yunus, a former Bangladeshi fast bowler who played professional cricket in the 1980s, has been involved in sports management since the late 1990s. He held a significant role at the BCB since 2009 and became the head of cricket operations in 2021.
Yunus explained that he chose to resign to support the advancement of cricket in Bangladesh.
“I resigned for the betterment of cricket. I want cricket to be managed properly and accurately. I understand their decision to replace me according to the constitution. I don’t want to hinder the progress of cricket,” Yunus said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
In the meantime, Bangladesh will face Pakistan in a two-match Test series beginning on August 21. The second Test of the series is scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 3. Both matches will be held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced their team for the first Test against Bangladesh on Monday. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Khurram Shahzad, and Mohammad Ali are the top four fast bowlers who will represent Pakistan in the first Test match.
