Jamaal Lascelles experiences a bit of a nightmare at Leicester City in his first week

After over a decade at Newcastle United, Jamaal Lascelles moved to Leicester City.

His time was up at St James’ Park.

Time to move on and start to play regular football once again.

At the age of 32, Jamaal Lascelles finding that the evolution under Eddie Howe had brought ever increasing quality players into Newcastle United.

So on Tuesday 3 February 2026 we finally got confirmation that he’d made a permanent move to the Foxes.

Leicester City were in a bit of a mess and having lost six of their last nine league matches, wanted to ensure they weren’t dragged into a relegation battle. Only three Championship clubs had conceded more goals than the 45 the Foxes had leaked so far.

Two days after the announcement that Jamaal Lascelles had joined the Foxes, Leicester City announced they had been docked six points. This due to PSR breaches.

That was last Thursday, on the Saturday, Jamaal Lascelles made his debut. He played the first 71 minutes of the match as Leicester City lost 2-1 away at Birmingham City, the winning goal scored only four minutes before he was subbed.

On Tuesday night, Jamaal Lascelles watched on from the bench as Leicester raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time at half.

Southampton had scored a consolation goal just after the hour mark but the former Newcastle United player brought on with 15 minutes to go, to help see out this 3-1 home win.

Leicester City then conceding on 82 minutes, 86 minutes and finally six minutes into added time.

Jamaal Lascelles and his new teammates losing 4-3 at home, in a game they had led 3-0.

As things now stand, Leicester City are fourth bottom of the Championship and if Blackburn get anything from their game in hand, the Foxes would be in the relegation zone. Now only rock bottom Sheffield Wednesday have conceded more goals than Leicester City.

It seems incredible that Leicester City could well be on their way to the third tier, with it currently less than ten years ago when they won the Premier League.

The thing is though, they have now only picked up one point from their last six matches and are dropping like a stone.

Good luck to Jamaal Lascelles as he tries to prevent Leicester City making it consecutive relegations.
