Franz Wagner suffered an injury in the first quarter of the Orlando Magic’s game against the New York Knicks on Sunday.
He jumped to dunk an alley-oop pass from Anthony Black and received contact from Knicks center Ariel Hukporti behind him.
Wagner landed awkwardly and immediately clutched his lower left leg in a lot of pain.
He exited the game with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter and was unable to play any further part.
Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley has now commented on Wagner’s injury, which looked like it could be significant.

Magic fans will be hoping that it is only a short-term problem, but they are certainly fearful that it could be much worse.
What moves do the Orlando Magic need to make to become top contenders?
Mosley did not have anything to say about the severity of the injury; he simply shared how upset he was about the incident.
“You never want to see anybody go down,” Mosley said after the game. “That hurt my heart, watching him hit the floor. Just praying that everything is going to be okay with him.
“But again, you just don’t like to see that happen to anyone, especially Boogie, who does everything the right way at all times that he’s on the floor.”

Franz Wagner was headed for an All-Star appearance
Franz Wagner will be even more disappointed to have suffered an injury because he is playing the best basketball of his life.
The 24-year-old was averaging 23.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game this season before Sunday.

With Paolo Banchero missing 10 games, Wagner is the biggest reason behind the Magic’s 14-10 record.
He would undoubtedly have been named an All-Star for the first time and was arguably on course to make an All-NBA team.
Magic fans will now be hoping that the latter remains possible because he is not going to spend a long time on the sidelines.
