Gary Kirsten has been reported to have submitted his resignation to the PCB, thus resigning from his role as limited-overs coach for the Pakistan team. Kirsten term with the Pakistan team didn’t last for even six months as he was appointed back in April 2024.
This decision was reportedly made by Kirsten after having a disagreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board. Sighting his splendid record Kirsten urged for hiring Reid in a coaching role, however, the plea was totally rejected by PCB as they rather suggested other options for the position which did not land well with Kirsten.
Gary who has been working on his terms has had results with whichever team he has worked for, as he brought the World Cup home with India in 2011 while also landing the debut IPL title for Gujarat Titans.
Just a few hours later, after Gary’s resignation, the PCB announced that red-ball coach Jason Gillespie would for now fill Kirsten’s shoes as the white-ball coach during the tour to Australia. Gillespie has also been in some sort of tiff with the PCB regarding their mismanagement and lack of priority for the opinions of the coaches.
The coaches have reportedly faced sidelined due to the growing priority of the new selection committee which includes likes of famous retired ICC umpire, Aleem Dar, ex-cricketers Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq, while also other members like Aaqib Javed and Hassan Cheema.
