India’s squad for the 1st Test vs BAN: In the midst of India’s domestic cricket season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has selected the 16-member squad for the first test match against Bangladesh, which will begin on September 19th at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Before the highly anticipated Border Gavaskar trophy in Australia later this year, this will be a great chance for the Indian team and selectors to choose the right players.
Given that pacer star Jasprit Bumrah is back in the squad and ready for some red-ball cricket, it’s not surprising that Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has been left out of this first test match against Bangladesh in Chennai. Gaikwad who has been performing consistently in the domestic circuit has sadly been dropped as the openers slot is full with Rohit, Gill, and Jaiswal.

This will be the first time since December 2022 that the star wicketkeeper played his last red ball game, where along with Dhruv Jurel the Delhi star makes his comeback into the test squad of the Indian team. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill maintain their spot as they make the cut into the squad but it will be interesting to see who among these youngers will play along the skipper Rohit Sharma.
BCCI and Agarkar’s Bold Decisions for the Squad Selection
Sarfaraz Khan who has had very good domestic seasons in the past two or three years has once again been selected for the Bangladesh series as he could be a series threat in the middle order. Currently for the first test match the BCCI has decided to go with Rishbah Pant and Dhruv Jurel as the wicketkeeper options for this test match. If needed they even have the services of KL Rahul who is also part of the 16-member squad for this first test match.
Youngster Gets His First Test Call-up
In a major surprise, it was Yash Dayal who made it to the squad for this first test match, where if given a chance he would play his first red ball game for India in an International match. Alongside this surprise, another shocking inclusion was the big player Jasprit Bumrah. It seemed like Bumrah would be given rest but however, the new Head Coach has decided to include Jasprit Bumrah.
While Md. Siraj and Akash Deep will also be part of the pace attack that will be part of this 1st test match against Bangladesh. Considering that the first test match is being played in MA Chidambaram Stadium the pitch is known for favoring spinners. So that why BCCI has decided to go with four spinners (R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav).
