Jasprit Bumrah made history on Day 3 of the Gabba Test as he finished with figures of 6 for 76 against Australia on Monday, December 16. Bumrah has been by far India’s best performer in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, spearheading the Indian attack into a thrilling match-winning effort at Perth as skipper of the side.
On the second day, Bumrah was fighting a solo battle, with none of his fellow Indian bowlers being able to put up any significant fight while Travis Head and Steve Smith made hundreds against them. Bumrah will manage to get his 2nd 5-wicket haul in the series, bringing a series of much-needed relief to India after a long, tiring day of playing. He will add 1 more to his final tally early on Day 3.
The edge was indeed taken by Mitchell Starc on a ball thrown up by this Indian pacer to Rishabh Pant for a 6-wicket haul. The end for Bumrah was 6 for 76 in 28 overs. Coincidentally, was the best figures by an Indian bowler at this iconic Gabba ground. Bumrah has set a new record breaking that previously held by Erapalli Prasanna taking 6-for-104 in second innings of 3rd Test between India and Australia at the ground way back in January 1968.
The pace sensation has now secured his 50th wicket against Australia in Tests after getting the scalp of Starc on Day 3. It’s now recorded that Bumrah reached the landmark of 50 wickets against Australia in 10 matches, 10 all of which happened down under.
This Indian pacer has an impressive average of 17.62 and already has a shot at breaking Kapil Dev’s record in Australia. During his career in Australia, Kapil Dev managed to capture 51 wickets, and Bumrah is now just 2 shy of this number.
