Jaydev Unadkat will play county cricket in England after not being chosen for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The BCCI selection committee picked four teams for the red-ball competition, which will start India’s domestic cricket season and include some well-known players.
Unadkat, however, was not selected for any of the four teams. Instead, he will play first-class cricket in England, joining Sussex County Cricket Club for the last part of the current County Championship.
“I’m very glad to return here,” Unadkat mentioned in a video posted on social media. “Hove feels like my second home. The team has been performing really well this season, and I hope we can keep it up in the second half of the season and return to division one, which is where we should be. Cheers!”
This marks the second occasion that the left-handed fast bowler will be playing for Sussex, having previously participated in four games and taking 11 wickets. His best game was against Leicestershire, where he took 6 wickets for 94 runs in the second innings, leading Sussex to a 15-run victory.
Sussex’s main coach, Paul Farbrace, is pleased to have the 32-year-old back.
Farbrace mentioned, “We’re all thrilled that Jaydev is coming back to the 1st Central County Ground to play in the last five important games of the upcoming season.”
He continued, “Jaydev met our expectations by not only playing well on the field but also being a great person and helping us reach our goals. He’s a wonderful guy who did his best to support our players and share his amazing skills.”
Unadkat, the captain of Saurashtra in Indian domestic cricket, has played 114 first-class matches and taken 403 wickets with an average of 23.34. He has achieved 23 five-wicket hauls.
Additionally, he has played in four Test matches and taken three wickets in those games.
