Jaylen Brown hosted an event during All-Star Weekend. He says he was the only one shut down

Beverly Hills police shut down an event Jaylen Brown was hosting during NBA All-Star Weekend. Brown said he lost “hundreds of thousands of dollars.” The city cited permit issues. Brown called the city’s statement “completely false” and said he was “the only one” whose event was shut down.

Brown said the city’s statement is “completely false”

The event was held at a Beverly Hills mansion under Brown’s 741 brand. Brown described it as a gathering focused on culture, independence, and creative control. “We had a pop-up talking about culture, talking about the future of independence, creative control, et cetera. A bunch of different people that were just there to just talk about positivity in the community,” Brown said. Beverly Hills authorities stated a permit was required and had been denied due to previous violations at the venue. Brown disputed this. “The statement they put out is completely false. I stand by that,” he said.

Brown said police “didn’t try to work with us”

Brown said his team believed no permit was necessary for the type of event they were hosting. He criticized how authorities handled the situation. “They didn’t try to work with us. They didn’t try to have a conversation. They came right in and shut everything down,” Brown said. The shutdown occurred during NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.

Brown said he was “the only one” shut down

Brown suggested his event was singled out. “It just seemed like somebody didn’t want whatever we had going on to go on because out of everybody that was doing something, it seemed like I was the only one that gets shut down,” Brown said. Multiple events take place around All-Star Weekend. Brown’s comments raised questions about whether his event received different treatment than others.

Brown estimated six-figure losses

Brown said the financial impact was significant. He described it as “hundreds of thousands of dollars lost down the toilet.” The event was part of Brown’s 741 brand, which he uses as a platform outside of basketball. Brown has been vocal on social issues throughout his NBA career. The dispute with Beverly Hills authorities is ongoing.
