JBL On Steve Austin’s WWE Future: ‘I Would Bet Against A Match’ But ‘I Would Bet On Stunners’

JBL says he would bet against Steve Austin having another match in WWE but believes the Hall of Famer would deliver more than just a stunner if he did return. Speaking on Something To Wrestle on 3:16 Day, JBL was asked about Austin’s chances of competing again after Austin told Busted Open Radio that he does not have the itch to do another match. JBL said he is not surprised by Austin’s position but would not rule out more than a cameo if Austin does show up.

“I would bet against a match, is my guess, but I would bet far as stunners that (are) coming,” JBL said. “I don’t know when. Maybe WrestleMania, maybe tonight. I don’t know. Maybe that’s all things ruse. I would bet stunners, just getting out there and doing something.”

JBL also revealed a detail about Austin’s preparation before his WrestleMania 38 match against Kevin Owens in 2022. “The problem with Steve is that WrestleMania match with Kevin Owens, Vince wanted just basically a stunner,” JBL said. “And Steve said no. I remember seeing Steve working on some stuff like the day before. I said, how long have you been working out? He said, about 20 minutes. He had not been wrestling. He just took that match last minute and went out there and had, I thought, a hell of a match.”

JBL said Austin’s desire to perform has always pushed him beyond what was planned. “When he was on top, you couldn’t get him to go 20 minutes,” JBL said. “He goes 30 minutes, 40 minutes, whatever it was out there, and drinks beers for another 20 minutes. He would be out there forever because he loved performing. So if Steve ever gets out there, it may be a lot more than stunners. I have been out there with him when Vince has told us nothing physical, and all of a sudden Steve ends up doing it. So I think if Steve ever gets out there, it may be more than stunners.”

JBL also sharedhis personal desire to see Austin back on WWE television. “I wish he was,” JBL said. “I’m disappointed but not surprised. I love Steve, and he’s so entertaining. I’d love to see him interact with all these great stars they have today. I think it would be fantastic.”

Austin last appeared on WWE television at WrestleMania 41 in 2025, where he announced the event’s attendance before crashing an ATV into the ringside barrier. He told Busted Open Radio on 3:16 Day that he is focused on an upcoming desert race and will not be attending Raw in San Antonio. WrestleMania 42 takes place April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
