Jean Silva Puts UFC Future On The Line In Potential Alexander Volkanovski Fight

No. 6 UFC featherweight contender Jean Silva says he should be fighting champion Alexander Volkanovski next.

The Brazilian believes top contender Movsar Evloev, who most recently secured a majority decision win over Lerone Murphy at UFC London, should not get the next title shot.

Silva appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he gave his two cents on why the undefeated Evloev should not fight for the featherweight championship next. “Lord” said:

“It’s really a dangerous game to let somebody like Movsar be a champion… I think he’s had like 10–11 cancellations at this point. I actually have all the components—the formula for what a UFC champion should be. This is more than just a fighting championship; whoever’s in front has to be able to bring the viewership. I’m the guy who actually brings it. I’m the name out there. There’s no other name that could do it as well as I can.” [h/t: Ariel Helwani]

Jean Silva issues bold challenge: ‘If Alexander Volkanovski wins, I’ll leave the UFC’

During the same sit-down with Ariel Helwani, Jean Silva added that if he loses to Alexander Volkanovski, he will leave the UFC. While calling out the current and two-time 145-pound titleholder, “Lord” said:

“My message to Volkanovski. Just stop all the bs. Let’s think straight about it, and let’s go in. Let’s exchange some strikes, and if Volkanovski wins, I’ll leave the UFC.”

Despite Silva’s call-outs, Alexander Volkanovski has made it clear that he wants to fight the top contender next, and this time, no one should be fast-tracked to a title shot.

In a recent video, taking a light-hearted jab at “Lord” and referencing the latter’s TKO loss to Diego Lopes, “The Great” said:

Jean Silva is yet to prove himself. He fought a top guy and lost to a guy that I beat twice. This is getting ridiculous now, now you’re making me look bad by not fighting the No. 1 guy.”
