Jessica Troy Loves Christmas, Despises People That Say They Hate It

Jessica Troy is looking forward to the most wonderful time of the year.

For the Northern Hemisphere, Christmas comes during the season of winter, which is often laced with colder weather and snow. As a native of Australia, located below the equator, Jessica Troy’s Christmas days are typically surrounded by the sunshine and warmth of the summer. Regardless of the scenery, though, Troy attests the inviting spirit of Christmas radiates just the same.

“100% [it is a big thing in Australia],” Troy, a former PWA Heavyweight Champion, told WrestleZone’s Ella Jay. “And let me be clear, I despise people that say, ‘Oh, I don’t really get Christmas. I don’t like Christmas.’ No, grow up. I love Christmas. Christmas is like the best time of year. I imagine it’s quite different to the [United] States though because obviously it’s your winter. It’s our summertime, so we’re used to classic things like if you have a pool, you go to the pool. Last year for Christmas, I went to the beach after we ate lunch for a beach swim. We have cold meat at lunchtime. So we’ll have a bunch of seafood, ham, like colder-style foods, salads and barbecues maybe, but not really hot food or snow. It’s more sand.”

Troy Recalls Fond Christmas Memories & Music

Like many children growing up in the 2000s, Troy was elated when she woke up one Christmas morning to discover that her parents had gifted her Moon Shoes, the popular shoes marketed as mini-trampolines for one’s feet. Upon testing them out, Troy learned that she could not, in fact, actually catapult to the moon. Still, she recalls it as a fond holiday memory.

“I didn’t grow up in a rich family or anything like that. We’re very middle class, lower middle class, but we got spoiled at Christmas time,” Troy said. “Somehow they’d always just pull it off. Even though throughout the year they’d be like, ‘Oh, we’re not getting many presents this year’ or ‘It’s going to be a quiet Christmas this year,’ it never was. I got this present once. I think they’re called Moon Shoes. It was like trampoline shoes.

“… I was so excited and mom and dad were there. They came outside and we’d start playing with all the toys because it’s warm outside. So we just play with everything outside. And I go to jump on these shoes expecting it to be like I’m on the moon, there’s not going to be any gravity, and it’s literally like I get [not far off the ground]. It’s nowhere near the trampoline-ness, but I’m just there popping, so all worth it.”

Regarding Christmas music, Michael Bublé’s 2011Christmas album remains a staple in the Troy family. For Troy personally, Ariana Grande’s Santa Tell Me is a top favorite as well.
