Jets/Cardinals News
The New York Jets could target Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the offseason, according to SNY’s Connor Hughes. The 33-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with Arizona.
Brissett joined the Cardinals on a two-year deal in March 2025. He took over as a starter in Week 6 after Kyler Murray suffered a foot injury against the Tennessee Titans. Murray was placed on injured reserve on November 5 and was ruled out for the remainder of the season in early December.
The veteran quarterback finished the 2025 season with career-high numbers despite a 1-11 record as Arizona’s starter. Brissett threw for 3,366 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 games. He completed 47 passes against San Francisco on November 16, setting an NFL regular-season record for completions in a single game.
Brissett has a history with the new Jets offensive coordinator, Frank Reich. The two worked together in Indianapolis during the 2019 season, when Reich was the Colts’ head coach. Brissett went 7-9 as the starter that year, throwing for 2,942 yards with 18 touchdowns and six interceptions.
The Jets announced Reich’s hiring on Wednesday morning. Reich served as Stanford’s interim head coach in 2025 and previously led the Colts from 2018 to 2022. He has worked with multiple quarterbacks throughout his coaching career, including Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan in Indianapolis.
New York’s quarterback situation remains unsettled heading into the offseason. Justin Fields and Brady Cook are currently under contract, but both face uncertain futures with the franchise. Fields was benched during the 2025 season after the Jets signed him to a two-year deal. Cook, an undrafted free agent, started several games down the stretch as the team evaluated its options.
The Jets hold the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, the quarterback class is considered weak outside of Fernando Mendoza. New York could explore veteran options through trades or free agency while developing a long-term solution at the position.
Arizona went 3-14 in 2025, the worst record in franchise history. Head coach Jonathan Gannon was firedon January 5 following the season’s conclusion. Murray’s future with the Cardinals remains uncertain as the organization enters an offseason of transition.
Brissett has appeared in 101 games over ten NFL seasons. He was selected by New England in the third round of the 2016 draft and has also played for Indianapolis, Miami, Cleveland, Washington and New England before joining Arizona. He was part of the Patriots’ Super Bowl LI championship team.
The Jets finished 3-14 in 2025 under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. The offense ranked 29th in both scoring and total yards. Reich’s hiring represents an attempt to rebuild the unit around whoever emerges as the starting quarterback in 2026.
