Jets snag huge two points with 3-2 win in St. Louis
St. Louis found the back of the net first just under five minutes into the game when Dylan Holloway fired his second-straight 20-goal season past the glove of Connor Hellebuyck inside the right circle on the power play to make it 1-0.
Winnipeg evened things up at 9:24. Mark Scheifele carried the puck behind the net and fed a backhand pass to Alex Iafallo, who roofed it past Jordan Binnington for his 13th. Scheifele inched closer to his first career 100-point season with the primary assist, his 98th point.
Josh Morrissey was flying all night long and also made a huge stick save to keep the puck out of the Jets net when Hellebuyck was caught out of position in the first. Morrissey would give the Jets their first lead of the night at 14:11 of the second with his 14th of the season when he whacked one home in front of the net past Binnington. Scheifele hit 99 points with the secondary helper.
Winnipeg extended its lead to two just 1:40 later off a sweet passing play involving Gabriel Vilardi, Cole Perfetti and Jonathan Toews, who finished off the play with a one-timer set up by Perfetti for his 11th and second in as many games.
The Blues pushed back in the third with exactly seven minutes left to play when Colton Parayko fired his third past Hellebuyck’s glove to make it a one-goal game with essentially the season on the line for St. Louis.
Morrissey took an untimely penalty at 17:26 to send St. Louis to the power play, but Winnipeg’s penalty kill didn’t allow the Blues to set up easily, and the Jets were able to sneak out the 3-2 win.
Hellebuyck was solid when called upon, making 20 saves. The Jets improve to 35-31-12 with the win and have won seven of their last 10 games (7-2-1).
As of right now, the Jets are two points out of the playoffs, but that can change as there are currently three games going on with wild-card implications.
