Joe Root breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s decade-long record in Test cricket

England’s senior batter Joe Root has broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most runs and most centuries in Test cricket. Even though Root has a long way ahead, he had managed to break the record of Sachin for most runs in fourth inning of Test cricket.

Root reached the top position with an unbeaten play of 23 runs in 15 balls, as he was engaged in the chase of 104 runs against New Zealand in the first Test of the series at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch.

Root is now at the top position with 1,630 runs in 49 innings of Test cricket. Indian legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar had his name at the top of the list for 11 years, as he had 1,265 runs from 60 innings.

As two more Test matches remain in the series, Root will be eyeing to reach a subtotal of 13,000 runs and become the fifth batter in Test cricket to do so. He needs 223 runs to reach the milestone.
