Former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones remains focused on a potential comeback despite losing out on a fight at the White House.
Jon Jones and UFC CEO Dana White remain at odds after the UFC heavyweight champion publicly called for his release from the promotion after missing out on the upcoming White House card. Jones, who retired last summer following long negotiations to fight Tom Aspinall, reversed his retirement after U.S. President Donald Trump and White announced the UFC’s White House event.
After calling for his release earlier this month, it’s uncertain if Jones will get his wish, as is whether or not White will allow Jones to compete in the Octagon again. At the UFC 326 post-fight press conference, White pointed to Jones’ admitted hip arthritis as a significant reason why he was left off the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 card.
Despite Jones hinting at a potential future hip replacement, Jones is ‘feeling better’ after taking medical advice from UFC commentator Joe Rogan. After hearing White’s concerns, it didn’t take long for Jones to respond on social media.
Jon Jones indirectly hits back at Dana White’s concerns about his hip arthritis
In a recent tweet, Jones appeared to indirectly respond to White’s comments about his hip arthritis.
“Random thoughts: Arthritis hurts, it doesn’t make you cripple,” Jones posted Friday.
“I’m still smashing 99.47% of you out there.”
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and former interim titleholder Ciryl Gane will fight for the interim heavyweight title at UFC Freedom 250 this summer. The winner is expected to fight Aspinall, once the undisputed champion is medically cleared to return to the cage following multiple eye surgeries.
But Jones remains hopeful he’ll return to the Octagon to fight at least one more time for a future heavyweight appearance. In the meantime, it appears tensions between Jones and White aren’t going away anytime soon.
