Jordan Love Admits Costly Mistake After Interception Dooms Packers Against Browns

After cruising through their first two games, the Green Bay Packers stumbled in Week 3 with an improbable 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Green Bay carried a 10-0 lead into the fourth quarter, but the offense collapsed late. Quarterback Jordan Love only made matters worse with a costly interception that swung momentum and set up Cleveland’s comeback.

Jordan Love, 26, broke down what went wrong on the interception. The fifth-year quarterback explained the play design and admitted he completely missed safety Grant Delpit in coverage, per Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

“We were running a triple-snake concept and they were in man coverage. I’m trying to work [Dontayvion] Wicks right there, number two. The safety that was guarding Tucker [Kraft] fell off that, passed it off, and got in the window right there, and I didn’t see him. It’s a really tough play. Especially in the circumstances and timing of the game. It’s one we’ll have to learn from and move on,” said the Green Bay Packers star quarterback after the game.

That’s essentially how the play unfolded. Browns safety Grant Delpit read Jordan Love perfectly and snagged the interception. After starting out lined up on Tucker Kraft, Delpit slid over into Love’s passing lane, picked it off, and returned it inside the five. That set up Cleveland’s game-winning field goal.

Jordan Love wrapped up the game with 183 yards through the air, one touchdown, and one costly interception while connecting on 18 of 25 passes for a 72 percent completion rate. The Packers’ offense never found its rhythm, managing only 230 total yards in the loss.

Green Bay converted 10 of 18 third downs but managed just 10 points after putting up 27 in each of its first two games against playoff opponents.

Any chatter about the Packers chasing an undefeated season ended on Sunday, and the buzz around Green Bay’s Super Bowl hopes has cooled off for the moment.
